Odaios Street Life - Tented Food Exhibition 2014
#OdaiosStreetLife - on the 12/13 May 2014, Odaios Foods once again opened the gates to Fitzwilliam Square for our third Tented Food Exhibition, Street Life. Set out over 2 acres, Street Life invited food professionals to explore the influence of street food from past to present. Odaios dug into the past to shape the ideas of modern gastronomy.
From an Airstream American bakery, to a vintage Citroën cocktail bar, a hanging fire grill to free standing currachs. From the Hunter-Gatherers skinning a wild boar with Mesolithic tools, to a venison Viking feast with Brian Boru Ale, a 1914 tea room filled with pastries, sweet treats and petit fours to our very special guests, Bifo and Lulu, the wild boars and The Eggologist’s hens in their coup.
A Valhalla of food and hospitality, for chefs and food pioneers, spread out over 11,000 square feet of tented food thoroughfare. Using inspiration from street food dishes, Street Life showcased a vast range of meat, charcuterie, shellfish, fruit and vegetables, cheese, bread, pastry, coffee, cake, ice cream and all things gastronomic.
Meet your Maker - food professionals met with our producers, growers, farmers, master carvers, butchers, bakers, mixologists and baristas who were on hand to take them through the new tastes and textures of what we have cooking in 2014.
In the Learning Lounge - our pop-up culinary environment for chefs – discussions ranged from Beekeeping to Cakes & Cookery Books, Meat of Character, Wild Foods, Herb Inspiration, Cask Beer and Craft Brewing. With special thanks to all our guest speakers over the two days, Mickael Viljanen, Philip McCabe, Aoife Carrigy, Ed Hick, Evan Doyle, Maurice Kettyle, Declan Nixon, Cuilan Loughnane, Luisa Sanchez, Michelle Darmody and Denise Dunne.
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of l'École du Grand Chocolat, Valrhona ran a competition in their tipi for a 3 day Classic Pastry stage, won by Alan Devlin, Pastry Chef in L'Gueuleton, Dublin 2. Alan heads off to Tain l’Hermitage, France at the end of June.
